Larkin Secures Grant Support for the Revitalization of Elant's Meadow
Hill Campus in Newburgh.(NEWBURGH, N.Y.) -- A revitalization project at the Elant at Newburgh nursing home recently received a big boost from State Sen. William J. Larkin, Jr. Larkin, R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson, secured a $70,000 member item for the project, known as Elant's Renewal at Newburgh, which is now underway at the 190-bed campus, located on Meadow Hill Road.
Funds for the project will be used for a variety of interior and exterior projects that include creating a new grand entrance courtyard, replacing outdated crank beds with new electric adjustable beds, and renovating resident rooms and common areas. Monies will also be used to revamp nursing stations, making them more accessible to residents and creating warmer, more comfortable environments.
The Newburgh renovation is part of Elant's broader system-wide initiative to transform the traditional, institutional nursing home environment into neighborhoods that make residents feel more like home.
"We are so pleased that Senator Larkin has been such a strong advocate in Albany," said Donna Cornell, president of Cornell Associates and chair of the Elant's Renewal at Newburgh committee. "The community leaders and volunteers involved with this project sincerely appreciate the senator's support and assistance in achieving our goals for the Newburgh campus."
"I am excited and encouraged that community support for this renewal effort will gain increased momentum as a result of this award," said architect Joseph Minuta, a member of the committee who contributed professional expertise to develop the renovation plan. "I am especially happy that Senator Larkin is sensitive to the needs of the elderly and has embraced this new vision."
