Art Exhibit Visits Elant at Newburgh.

(Newburgh, N.Y.) - A unique, traveling art exhibit with pieces created by residents, staff and volunteers of New York's not-for-profit public nursing homes and senior communities opened recently at Elant at Newburgh.

Known as the NYAHSA Art Exhibit, the 70-piece show will be on display at the nursing home through September 13. A breakfast reception designed to showcase the event will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. September 12. The reception is free and open to the public. "The traveling art exhibit provides residents with the ability to display their considerable talents while enjoying the fine creative works of their peers throughout the state," said Cheryl Dorn, vice president and executive director of Elant at Newburgh. A project of the New York Association of Homes & Services for the Aging (NYAHSA), which represents New York's not-for-profit, mission-driven and public long-term care providers, the exhibit is sponsored by NYAHSA Services, Inc., which gives health care providers opportunities to save on insurance, telecommunications and energy programs.

"NYAHSA is proud to share the works of residents, clients, staff and volunteers affiliated with not-for-profit and public continuing care providers across New York state," said Carl S. Young, president of NYAHSA. "We know that the people of New York state enjoy the opportunity to learn yet again that the ability to create art knows no age or geographic boundaries."

For the 2006 art exhibit, more than 250 pieces were submitted by residents/artists from facilities located throughout the state. Included in this year's show are pieces by residents of the Albany County Nursing Home, Coburg Village, Inc. (Rexford), Embury Apartments, Inc. (Saratoga Springs), Eddy Cohoes Rehabilitation Center and Saratoga Care Nursing Home.

Professional artists serve as jurists and select the works for the show from two categories, Resident/Client or Staff/Volunteer. This year the art exhibit travels to ten locations in the Western, Rochester, Southern Tier, Central, Northern and Hudson Valley regions and finishes in the Long Island area in October.

Over the course of 16 years, the program has showcased more than 3,000 art works of all media.
