April 15, 2008Elant to Host Inaugural Golf Open
GOSHEN, N.Y. -- The not-for-profit Elant Foundation will hold its inaugural Elant Golf Open July 17 at the Dutchess Golf and Country Club in Poughkeepsie.
The outing is open to the public and will feature special guest, James Patterson, America’s No. 1 best-selling author. Patterson sold more than 15.8 million books in 2007 alone and has more than 150 million books in print worldwide.
Patterson is the first author to have No. 1 titles simultaneously on the New York Times adult and children’s lists and holds The New York Times bestsellers list record with 39 bestselling books. He is the author of the Alex Cross detective series, the Women’s Murder Club series, for which an ABC television series is named, and the beloved young adult Maximum Ride series. He is on Forbes magazine’s Celebrity 100 list.
The format of this year’s event is a best ball of four players with prizes for winners in the individual, group, women’s and men’s competitions. Entry fee per player is $200 and includes lunch, dinner, cocktails, golf car, prizes and a complimentary Patterson book. Teams of four players are $800. For non-golfers, dinner is $70 per person. Registration begins at 11 a.m. and tee-off time is 12:30 p.m., immediately following an 11:30 a.m. lunch. Cocktails begin at 5 p.m. with dinner following at 6 p.m.
Proceeds from the event will assist Elant’s residents and clients, nearly 70 percent of whom rely on Medicaid to cover the costs of their care.
Co-chairing the event are Kevin Armistead and Michael A. Smith. Assisting in the active planning of the golf open are John Meder, Will Thorpe, Judy Wason, Gordon McAleer, Betty Brennan, Anne Palmer-Moss, Mindy Quinn, Jennifer Riccardi, Anne Striphas, Tom McGorry and Pat Usifer.
